Founded by the textile designer, author and collector Jack Larson, LongHouse Reserve is a 16 acre reserve and sculpture garden located in East Hampton, NY. The LongHouse was Jack Larson’s case study (and home) to exemplify a creative approach to contemporary life. Larson believed that experiencing art in living spaces is more meaningful than experiencing it in a more formal setting.
LongHouse contains 13,000 square feet, and 18 spaces on four levels. The gardens provide a stage for the many installations, plant collections and sculptures found around the property. As part of our internationally recognized Art in the Gardens program, Jack Lenor Larsen and the LHR Arts Committee have assembled a collection of more than 60 contemporary sculptures in the LongHouse gardens. Throughout the 16 acre site, permanent works are on display along with those on seasonal loan from artists, collectors, and dealers.
Our goal is to expand the imagination and appeal to visitors of all ages and every level of appreciation.
LongHouse Reserve
You can visit the LongHouse Reserve on an “Open Day” with a $15 timed-ticket reservation. Walk through the property at your own pace, schedule a tour or bring your cells phones to listen to the garden highlights narrated by Jack Larson.
I have been to the LongHouse Reserve twice. The first time was with a group of high school art students and the second time was with a friend. The group of high school students were more focused on the art pieces and the artists. My friend and I were more focused on finding cool spots to relax and mesmerized by the interaction between art and nature.
Plan to spend about 2 hours at LongHouse Reserve.
